Helping First-time Homebuyers Achieve Home Ownership with the $8,000 Federal Tax Credit View All

8/30/2009

Sales associates at 19 area offices of Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage – Dallas/Fort Worth (CBDFW) are helping first-time homebuyers complete the home purchasing process using the $8,000 Federal Tax Credit.

“Buyers who hope to earn the $8,000 tax credit should begin the application process now, even before they find a home, in order to meet the upcoming November 30 deadline. Although there’s been a lot of media coverage, there are many potential buyers who want to earn the tax credit but don’t know where to begin,” says Sue Meyer, President of Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage – Dallas/Fort Worth.

In the last two months, Carol Higginbotham, Sales Associate at CBDFW’s Southwest Dallas County office has sold homes to five buyers who qualified for the program. The widely varied group included Ms. Higginbotham’s newlywed granddaughter and husband, Lindsey and Carr Smith; a U.S. Army veteran who served in Afghanistan and his family; a helicopter pilot relocating from Alaska and a young single woman from her church.

Debra Cruce, another sales associate from the Southwest Dallas County office, is in the process of closing her fourth home sale with the tax credit.

Charles Finicum, Broker Associate at the Arlington office has closed home purchases for two buyers, including a disabled veteran and his wife, who qualified for the $8,000 tax credit and a VA loan. The couple moved in to a house three blocks from the apartment where they have lived for 12 years. “Since they didn’t need the tax credit for the down payment, they’ll use the money to remodel the home,” says Mr. Finicum.

Joel Rose, Sales Associate of the Flower Mound office has a tax credit buyer closing the end of August, another in November and two more about to sign a contract. “Many of these buyers are hardworking young adults delighted to be able to purchase a home,” Mr. Rose says.

Qualifying for the program are first-time home buyers who purchase between January 1, 2009 and November 30, 2009. Buyers must not have owned a residence during the prior three years.
